EVERY CRISIS
IS A CALLING
A guide in challenging times
It offers hope in despair and helps you make sense of moments when you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected.
It invites you to embrace all of life’s experiences with curiosity and compassion, encouraging you to trust that your struggles hold meaning and can open the doorway to growth, wisdom, and transformation.
Your struggles aren’t the end of the story,
they’re the beginning of a journey.
The Soul of Change Model is the foundation of my work.
The model has been a quiet emergence over the past 7 years, growing organically from my research and personal journey. It began as a faint idea, sparked by my own experiences with transformation and the patterns I noticed in others navigating life’s challenges.
Slowly, through exploration, reflection, and connection, the framework took shape. Each piece came together like a mosaic, drawn from the wisdom of my mentors, ancient and modern myths, indigenous rituals of initiation, modern psychology, somatic practices, and my evolving understanding of the interplay between personal growth and collective change.
The model is a map of transformation, a tapestry from years of inquiry, trial, and insight—a guide not just for moving through change, but for embracing it as a path to authenticity and deeper purpose.
Who am I?
Hi, I’m David Hoogland.
The Soul of Change has been an intuitive emergence from a lifetime of experiences and years of deep research to learn to understand what my own depression, anxiety, and burnout were telling me.
I ran a creative agency, leading teams and projects for startups and within big organisations. For a while I thought that was my path, until I found out that it wasn’t.
Or at least not in the way I thought it was. I thought I was a designer, art-director, creative director, something along those lines. But looking back, I was a mentor who happened to be good at his work because I worked hard for it. But the hard work distracted me for a long time from finding the work I was meant to do. And this is the role I’m gently stepping into now. To be a mentor to those who are facing the obstacles I’ve faced. To be a mentor to others who are going through journeys of change and transformation.
It’s what I’ve always been doing underneath all the different roles and titles I’ve carried throughout my life.
Every challenge we face is an invitation to connect with our truth.
Every crisis carries within it the seed of a calling.
True transformation reveals strength, purpose, and the light that was already within you.
You know that the antidote to exhaustion is not necessarily rest?
The antidote to exhaustion is wholeheartedness.

Maybe you’re going through a burnout or depression.
Or you keep feeling this anxiousness that just won’t leave you.Maybe you feel stuck in a job that no longer fits, sensing there’s something more,
something calling you.Or perhaps your relationship feels stagnant
disconnected, misaligned, lonely,
even if nothing is “wrong” on the surface.Life brings us to these thresholds.
Moments that feel too heavy, too complex, unknown,
and too uncertain to move through alone.Big life changes ask for more than strategy.
They ask for community
someone who can witness you, hold space for you, and help you find your footing as you feel things you’ve never felt before
and face steps you’re afraid to take.Transformation isn’t something you plan your way through.
It’s an unpredictable crossing. There are blind spots.
There are initiations.
There are questions only you can answer.
One of them is this:
Is the fear of remaining the same
becoming greater
than the fear of change? If that question stirs something in you
if it feels like a mirror held up to your momentthen I’m here for you.

The strength of the Soul of Change lies in its simplicity. It’s not a tool for control but a guide to awareness.
In a world that teaches us to prioritize control and stability as the path to happiness, we often find that clinging to them during life’s inevitable challenges only deepens our suffering. Obstacles are an unavoidable part of life, and navigating them requires the courage to let go of control. This is the discomfort where we find growth and maturity.
The Soul of Change offers a framework for finding guidance—whether from within or through others—helping you face life’s struggles with awareness, trust, and connection. It transforms your suffering into a pathway toward growth, wisdom, and personal transformation.
